Kannan Kaya is a small banana variety grown in hilly regions of Kerala. This variety of banana requires very little attention and very little pesticide in its farming. The banana is harvested before it ripens, because, once it is ripe it becomes a very soft, pulp-like fruit which is not sought after for consumption.
However, as a under ripe green little banana, Kannan Kaaya is a super food of sorts. There are many other varieties of Kaya powder available, but we have noticed that they are of a different variety of banana, mostly varikka vazha and not the authentic Kannan Kaaya.
